As you lay, playing host to poison, know that you are not alone. As you face your nature, your spirit is your home. As you surrender to the great and terrifying reality of mortality, see beyond
— Ialtogabhainn
Breath For The Land is a meditation on the idea that we’re all from the earth and we’ll go back to it eventually. In this particular song, it’s the tale of an outlaw whose time has come, but who finds solace in his last moments by realizing we’re all a part of the land.
Song 01
Breath for the Land

Be still, and allow yourself to be healed by the energy of the Earth. Be still, and allow yourself to be healed by Stillness. Be still, and allow your stillness to heal others.
— Ialtogabhainn
This started as a sort of story about ancestors. It’s 3 stories. The first is a fictional account of a young girl whose time is short but whose spirit is large. The second story is the true story of my grandfather, who fought and was a POW in WW2. The third story is fictional and takes a more literal interpretation of “not living here anymore” and is meant to juxtapose the more difficult experiences of my ancestors with my current life.

Anymore (Ghost Song)

In stillness, there is motion. The placid pool teams with life. The container is not a trap. The flexible bough appears still to one who does not pay attention.
— Ialtogabhainn
This is a story about not taking chances when they’re presented to you.

Build your house on a strong foundation. The strongest is Love.
— Ialtogabhainn
This is a story about love and responsibility and how sometimes two ships may only ever pass one another. A boy falls in love with a courageous girl but as they grow up, the village he is from needs him to be responsible. He chooses the village over his love and is never the same.

Often, when a path feels straight, it is narrow. Often, when a path seems crooked, it is actually straight as a river, over time. The forward motion of a path may make you think it is going somewhere. Like a river, it simply Is.
— Ialtogabhainn
This is a song directly to my wife and daughter. The song combines them into one “you”, but there are some verses that are to my wife and some “you kicked me and told me to leave you alone” that are to my daughter.

Not everything is a lesson. Sometimes it is ok to just Be.
— Ialtogabhainn
This is a song about immaturity and a love that is destined to fail, but still has its strange moments.

Know Your Name

Realizing a journey will be long and difficult is the first step to completing it.
— Ialtogabhainn
This is the strangest of these songs. It’s mostly about being a kid in Texas in the 90s, but it’s also about the journey of understanding oneself and one’s relationship to spirit and higher power.

Higher Ground

Feel the spirit in nature, in daily life. Bring magic with you. Bless more. Become a blessing. Share your lifeforce with the world. That is your magic.
— Ialtogabhainn
This may feel like a weird country song about being a gambler or something, but it’s the closest thing to a myth about the relationship between heroes and gods that I have in this series. In this case, the goddess is a very put-upon goddess of Luck, and the hero, yes, is a gambler.

Luck Ran Out

The bridge heaves and sways as the sea angrily shows her rage. This is the Awen. You still may pass. She is not raging at you. This is her way of protecting you. It may cause fear and distress. This is the Awen.
— Ialtogabhainn
This is the final song. It’s about rebirth.

Breath For The Sky

The cycle of Awen is that of beginnings upon completion. I am the initiate, the dedicant, the complete whole all at once. With change comes challenge. With challenge comes strength. With strength comes stillness.
